Lady trojans remain unbeaten

Marion County rivals, Hillsboro and Marion, have continued their winning, and losing, ways. Last night, the Hillsboro Lady Trojans continued their unbeaten season beating the Marion Lady Warriors (1-4) 52-21. They are now 6-0 heading into the holiday break.

The Lady Trojans were able, quite literally, to take the ball right from the hands of the Lady Warriors. Turning on the defensive pressure, Hillsboro scored 24 of their points from turnovers leaving the Marion squad to wonder what happened.

Hillsboro had a young team controlling the scoring last night. Again, sophomore Tena Loewen was high-scorer for the Lady Trojans, and the game, putting up 16 points. Freshmen Addie Lackey and Danae Bina contributed 7 and 6 points, respectively. Senior Allie Faul had a season-high game scoring 11 points from the floor.

Each quarter the Lady Trojans doubled the Marion score and led going into the half 29-11.

On the other side of the court, Marion was unable to sink shots stuck at just 22 percent shooting. It was a sloppy game from the start. Senior and team leader Whitney Gordon scored only 6 points, unable to hit much else. Hers was the story for the rest of the squad held to just 22 percent shooting overall. Donna Cady put up 4 points and freshman Katey Ehrlich continues to be an asset to the Lady Warriors scoring the same.

Both teams return Tuesday, January 4: Hillsboro away at Halstead and Marion hosting Remington.
